Position: General Manager

General Overview:  The General Manager directs and coordinates the business and
employees of the Cooperative in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors. General Manager is responsible for maintaining optimum efficiency and economy of operations including, but not limited to:

  • Receiving, storing, marketing and delivery of grain
    • Should possess a strong understanding of grain marketing
  • Overseeing the daily operation and maintenance of the grain storage facility
    • Must understand the workings of a grain storage facility and the ability to
      make daily repairs as needed

      • Overseeing the daily operation of the retail store including feed, agricultural supplies, and fuel
    • Responsible for inventory, margins and sales
      • Completing all safety compliance reports and ensuring all safety regulations are followed
      • Directly supervising department managers and other employees as assigned and directly responsible for the overall direction, strategy and evaluation of each department
    • Responsible for carrying out the supervisory responsibilities in accordance
      with organization policy, procedure and applicable State and Federal Law
    • Responsible for hiring, training and evaluating employees; addressing
      complaints, resolving problems and disciplining employees

Suggested Qualities:

  • Two or more years’ experience in the agricultural or related industry
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred or                    work experience and or technical training
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Exceptional people skills
  • Exceptional reasoning ability
  • Mathematical and Language skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Exceptional personal skills and the ability to anticipate and meet the
    needs of customers.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills

Timetable:

Physical Demands: 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell; stand; walk; sit and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. The employee may frequently need to climb ladders (may range from 20′ to 180′) and stairs. This may include structural ladders as well as climbing into applicator rig, large vehicles, and/or tractors. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.

Work Environment: 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and explosives. The noise level in this work environment usually moderate. Employee must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.
