Administrative and Communications Assistant

Strong preference for written communication skills for agricultural audiences, to include:

  • Assisting in the design, development and production of eye-catching promotional brochures, meeting announcement invitations, and publications.
  • Writing frequent e-mail membership newsletters, attaining high readership value.
  • Designing, updating, and keeping current an interactive web site and social media program.
  • Assisting with soliciting, researching, production and distribution of local, regional and statewide economic and industry compensation data in formats that are attractive and easy to understand.
  • Establish professional, frequent and consistent messages with a variety of audiences including universities, farm organizations, government officials and agricultural media.
  • Researching and designing educational and information messages to key constituents at least weekly.
  • Assisting in the design, updating, revision, and publication of an annual membership: Directory and Handbook, Joint Cooperative Meeting program, and other similar association publications.

Capacity, willingness and skills necessary to carry out an effective public affairs and public policy program with legislators and regulatory agency personnel at the state and federal level.

  • Attending a variety of forums, researching and interpreting farm policy and translating those complex messages in understandable, written form to cooperative and farm audiences on a frequent basis.
  • Assisting in influencing favorable policy on behalf of the industry through a variety of venues.

Serve in an office support capacity to the Executive Vice President and Director of Member Services to include:

  • Daily correspondence development and distribution.
  • Assist in event planning and coordination.
  • Office technology updates.
  • Telephone, printing and mail services.
  • Assist in coordinating an intense internship program.
  • Filing and record keeping activities.
  • Other duties associated with office administration.

Strong Preferences

  • Willingness to endure a very urban workplace environment and its way of life.
  • Deep rural roots, an appreciation of the farming and ranching profession, and can talk the farmer language.
  • Maturity and stability for long term performance.
  • A farm life work ethic mentality.
  • Ease at understanding cutting edge technology.
  • Degree in agricultural communications or similar.
  • Self motivator and prompt.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills.
